I'm rather ashamed that this is my first post on the Debut blog.

However... CRIKEY MOSES... One week!

I'm glad to say that my photos are finished and ready to print on Tuesday. :D

With only seven days and one minute left until the official opening night, I thought it'd be nice to update this place a little :)

I am, and i'm sure everyone else is also, really excited about the exhibition. It seems like forever ago that we planned it. I've got almost everything finished (3 drawings and 6 paintings), and i've been spreading the word all around TAFE, with some people saying they've already seen the advertisements for it, which is just dandy! :D

If anyone wants to come say hi, i'll be the guy handing out flyers at midday outside the WA Art Gallery :)

Studio Space - Project Debut Artists causin' a muckus at mcness!

Reporting in with some good news - we managed to score some studio space at McNess Studios! We'll be working on our pieces there, using the space as storage as well as holding our mentor/feedback sessions there :) in fact our first session with Stormie Mills and Sean Morris is this Friday.

Will update you (possibly with photos :O ) after!

I'm just updating to let you guys know that I've decided on a person to paint, and the reference picture, and I've bought the canvas so I'm like, really excited now. Can't wait to get started!

Buuuut you'll all have to wait for the work-in-progress shots until I let you know what's going on. :) Hold out for it!

hey troops,

thought I should contribute to this thing so here i am. The 'I' i speak of is me, otherwise known as Cheeks or if you want to get real technical then Ika J :) hope everyones summer is cranking! hope the sunshiney days make you happy... anyway, I'm an illustrator and i like to draw but occasionally paint too :D hope everyone's getting pumped for Debut. What I'm makings a secret you'll have to come to the show to see it ;) but i can leave you with something else just so you get your daily dose of awesome :p

Hi there, this is Luke (lupea is the nickname) and I'm one of the artists that'll be showcased in Project Debut. There hasn't been a post on here since mid-November so I thought it was high time o update it :)

Well I'll be painting for the exhibition three pieces that equal five canvases as one is a sort of triptych. They'll all have a flat base colour for the background to bring more focus to the foreground. I'm pretty anal retentive when it comes to the tonal arrangements in my piece which usually leads to taking a lot of time to do a piece fully. I've been told not to be such a perfectionist, but it's kind of hard when my career goal is a tattooist :P

I don't want to give away much about my pieces since they're mostly still in production. I can say that one is Banksy-inspired (If you don't know Bansky, shame on you and Google him) and the other is Beatles influenced, the third being inspired by various things, including the artist Lawrence Yang (again, shame on you for not knowing him if you don't). Two of these canvases are pretty big, so it'll be a big task for me to do. Fun times shall be had by all.

Just another quick update and, yes, a little late, but we got freerange gallery space!

So now there is a purpose, a timeline an end in sight (before we've even really started...).

Hi there.

This is the first blog post for the DEBUT PROJECT. Putting that in capitals just makes it so much better.

Anywho, first up is some details;

What?

The Debut Project is a youth visual arts project that involves an exhibition of work by seven young artists from Perth, all working in different areas of visual art.

Also included is a submission zine, "untitled(YOUTH)", that is to include artwork from Perth artists aged 13 to 25.

Who?

The seven exhibiting artists will be revealed on this site over the coming weeks...

When?

The exhibition is planned for February 2010. The zine will be launched at the same time.
